Introduction
This article explains the difference between cash and accrual financial reports in Salesorder's helpdesk platform. It also covers why totals can differ between report types, when certain lines may be missing, and how to review stock adjustment details.
Cash reporting
Cash reporting records transactions when money is actually received or paid. It focuses on the movement of cash and does not include amounts that have been earned or incurred but not yet settled.
Accrual reporting
Accrual reporting records transactions when they are earned or incurred, regardless of when payment is received or made. This provides a broader view of financial activity and is often used to understand the full cost and revenue picture for a period.
Key differences between cash and accrual reports
| Topic | Cash reporting | Accrual reporting |
|---|---|---|
| Transaction timing | Recorded when cash is received or paid | Recorded when earned or incurred |
| Cost of Goods Sold | May not appear if the selected period does not include the relevant journal entries | Included as part of the full accounting view |
| Reporting scope | Shows actual cash movement | Shows earned and incurred activity, even if unpaid |
Why report totals can differ
The same transaction can appear differently depending on the report type and the selected date range. In cash reports, entries only appear when the period includes the relevant cash activity or journal entries. If the selected period does not include those entries, certain lines will not appear.
Missing Cost of Goods Sold line
If the Cost of Goods Sold line is missing from a cash report, check whether the report period includes journal entries. If there are no journal entries in that period, the line will not display.
Stock adjustment reporting
There is no dedicated report that shows stock adjustments with before and after quantities. To review those quantities, use the SV detail report to check the stock movement details before and after the adjustment.
Common issues and solutions
If a line item is missing, confirm the report type and date range before checking the transaction details.
If you are working with reports in Excel and the output is difficult to use, capture screenshots and send detailed feedback to support so the issue can be investigated.
If totals do not match between cash and accrual reports, compare the transaction timing and included entries for the same period.

Additional information
For the most accurate review, compare cash and accrual reports side by side for the same period and verify whether journal entries, stock adjustments, and payment events are included in the selected range.
